ExCEL Conference 2017

Get your pencils ready!The annual ExCEL Conference will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Chavous Conference Center of Ridgewood Missionary Baptist Church, located at 5324 Ridgeway St, Columbia SC 29204. Directions

There will be an opening keynote presentation and two 90-minute learning sessions, in which participants can choose from four different classes. All classes will be repeated in each 90-minute session. Pre-registration is required for all classes. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

The first way we learn is through images. Children make connections to the meaning of words by looking at pictures. This session will look at ways to re-engage early learners through use of images and discussions.

Do You Speak Visual?: A Hands-On Guide to Using Visual Thinking Strategies with Early Learners

Visual literacy is all about learning to read pictures. The process of linking images and words starts from an early age. How can we encourage young children to continue to develop these skills? One technique that has been proven to spur visual literacy development as well as language acquisition, problem solving skills and more is visual thinking strategies. Join us to learn more about this skillset and develop the tools to use it in your own classrooms.

Come learn all about Reggio Emilia – the place and a way of teaching and learning that focuses on children’s curiosity and interests. It is used at Cutler Jewish Day School, a NAEYC accredited center and school.

This conference is open primarily to ExCEL Enhancement Team centers and is free to attend.

If space is available after all Enhancement Team members have registered, we will open the conference up to Directors’ Team centers as well
